This product comes to you from the north-east of Kenya, made by artisans working for the Kisii Soapstone Cooperative. Founded in 1980, Kisii gives around 400 stone carvers in Kenya a safe workplace, fair working conditions and a proper wage for their labour. The stone carvers working with Kisii are mostly farmers, who work very small plots of land growing staples like maize and beans. They meet together in small groups after the day's farming and carve, chat and share ideas, using the wages earnt as a secure, regular source of additional income to pay for things like schooling for their children. Your purchase of a Kisii product supports these artisans and their families!
